2008 Global Trends Conference to Focus on Critical Energy Issues

Experts in Emerging Solar, Alternative Energy and Green Building Technologies to Provide Insight on Key Issues Affecting Current and Future Commerce

NEW YORK, NY–(EMWNews – August 6, 2008) – Several of the nation’s top energy experts and

economists are slated to headline the seventh annual Global Market Trends Conference next month in Chicago,

where they will lead three days of seminars and discussions on the most

important emerging trends in technology today — alternative energy

sources, green building, and the need for energy efficiency in a world

that’s placing increasing demand on our natural resources.

Topics to be explored include how the “solar revolution” is transforming

the global energy industry; how renewable energy will change the way we

live; how the United States and other countries are rapidly adopting green

building practices; and how these trends, coupled with market shifts in the

housing and oil industries, promise to reshape economies throughout the

world.

This annual global summit draws an audience of industry leaders, scientists

and professional association members eager to learn more about the issues

and new technologies that will directly impact their businesses in the near

future.

The tone of the conference was summed up by Travis Bradford, author of

“Solar Revolution: The Economic Transformation of the Global Energy

Industry,” in his recent comments that, “The shift to solar energy… will

be as transformative as last century’s revolutions in information and

communication technologies.”

This year’s conference includes a series of powerful educational seminars.

The three-day event will be held Sept. 10-12 at the Sheraton Gateway

Suites, located conveniently near Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. Reservations

can be made online. Special room rates are available until

midnight, August 19 (mention Copper Development Association).

All of the invited speakers are recognized experts, authors and industry

notables in their fields. Mark Hopkins, director of international energy efficiency

for the United Nations Foundation, will speak on the need to provide

environmentally sound energy production. Travis Bradford, president of the Prometheus Institute

for Sustainable Development, will address the rapid expansion of solar

energy worldwide. Jerry Yudelson, considered a founder of today’s green

building movement, will discuss the phenomenal spread of sustainable code

and construction practices throughout the industry. Registered attendees

will receive a free copy of Yudelson’s book, “EMWNewsListBook”>Green Building A to Z: Understanding the Language of

Green Building.”

Other speakers and topics for the conference include:

Robert Shapiro, the U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce

for Economic Affairs until 2001, will provide a glimpse into the future as

he examines how globalization, aging societies and the rise of America as a

sole superpower will lead to monumental changes in the world over the

coming decade. “If one adds the wild card of a possible catastrophic

terrorist attack to the mix, the period between now and 2020 will be as

challenging as any in modern times,” says Shapiro, who currently serves as

director of the Globalization Initiative for the New Democratic Network.

Kateri Callahan, president of the Alliance to Save

Energy, will address the subject of energy efficiency and actions being

taken by ASE to improve the efficiency of buildings, while Jerry Yudelson,

president of Yudelson Associates LLC, will review European and American

approaches to green building, and discuss how green products and green

buildings are designed and built.

Howard Learner, president and executive director of

the Environmental Law & Policy Center, will explain how alternative

energies can produce cleaner air and more jobs while conserving natural

resources and improving the quality of life.

Philip Nichols, Ph.D., associate professor of legal

studies and business ethics at the Wharton School of Business at the

University of Pennsylvania, will discuss how emerging economic powers are

changing the geopolitical landscape. Ernie Goss, Ph.D., professor of economics at Creighton

University, will address the financial fallout from the collapse of the

U.S. housing market, rising oil prices and the resultant decline in net

wealth. Kenneth Simonson, chief economist for the Associated

General Contractors of America, will provide an outlook on where the

building construction industry is headed in 2009.

This year’s conference is presented by the Copper Development Association along with

the Copper & Brass Fabricators Council, American Copper Council, Non-Ferrous Founders’ Society and PMI. Co-sponsors of the 2008 Global

Market Trends Conference include the American

Metal Market and the Newedge

Group.
