Alaska, Iowa Latest States to Institutionalize iLinc Video Conferencing as Way to Reduce Rising Gas Costs, Lower Carbon Footprint

State CIOs Leading Charge to Invest in Cost Reduction, Green Initiatives

PHOENIX–(EMWNews)–iLinc (AMEX: ILC), a leading

provider of web and video conferencing software and online collaboration

solutions, announced today that it has entered into an agreement with

the state governments of Alaska and Iowa to provide statewide government

organizations with a single-point solution for web conferencing and

video conferencing. The new contracts bring the number of states now

using iLinc to seven.

Iowa and Alaska join Arizona, Utah, South Carolina, Oregon and Louisiana

in utilizing iLincs web conferencing suite

within its state agency operations to save on rising gas costs, reduce

travel time and realize substantial environmental benefits.

We chose iLinc web and video conferencing for

the great flexibility it offers in recordings, virtual classrooms and

the ability to host large-scale to one-to-one meetings,

said Ed Holland, manager of Risk Management and Employee Benefits for

State of Iowas Department of Administrative

Services. Of key importance as well is how

iLinc ties in with Iowa Governor Chet Culvers

green initiative as we use the web and video conferencing software to

more effectively reach employees throughout the state, thereby reducing

auto travel expense and environmental impact.

One of the leading forces behind the push for state government

environmental initiatives is the National Association of State Chief

Information Officers (NASCIO).

Recently the organization released a report called Green

IT in Enterprise Practices: The Essential Role of the State CIO

in which it calls on state CIOs to take the lead in their respective

states to save money and reduce greenhouse gases through information

technology initiatives.

As with any national phenomenon, executive

offices nationwide have taken note and

taken to heart that IT must be utilized in order to implement greener

practices in all aspects of government, the

report stated.

Growing fuel costs are increasingly on the minds of governors and mayors

across the country as gas prices are causing major government budget

shortfalls. At the United States

Conference of Mayors in Miami in June, fuel costs were a top issue

of discussion.

State and local governments are certainly

feeling the pinch of rising gas costs, and like any other organization

they are looking for smart ways to work more efficiently,

said James M. Powers,

Jr., president and chief executive officer of iLinc. Public

sectors are choosing iLinc because we offer not only a world-class set

of online collaboration tools but also because we provide

industry-leading data security and easy integration with other

complementary technologies.

Among the rich feature set offered by iLinc is its patent-pending Green

MeterTM, the industrys

first automatic IP address-based CO2 savings

and cost calculator application. The iLinc Green Meter uses a

mathematical algorithm to detect the locations of the people who are

attending a web conference and measures the distance between the meeting

participants and the meeting leader, calculating the exact amount of

travel that is eliminated and measuring the amount of CO2

and fuel costs saved by meeting via web conference rather than traveling.

The Green Meter provides users with a realistic measurement of carbon

savings and can also be used to measure fuel, miles per gallon and auto

maintenance savings. The State of Arizona, for example, can show savings

of 300,000 pounds of carbon emissions in the first quarter of 2008 and

$750,000 in actual cost savings across the 15 state agencies that are

using iLinc.
