Andy’s USA Breakthrough Treatment GoFundME Booster ViralExposure.us

I need help from the kindness of strangers to get my wonderful husband over to Florida, USA, from England, for breakthrough stroke treatment.

Hi, I am Kathryn and this fundraising page is for the love of my life, my husband, Andy. We both met on a dating website 7 years ago. I’m sure it was the ‘in thing to do’ back then. We were so sure of our feelings for each other that he moved from North London to be with me in Loughborough, on the same day that we met each other, face to face, for the first time. He had history, which to some extent most of us do.

I stood by his side throughout, knowing that some women may not have. Keeping him positive and strong, being able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Our love just grew stronger. Our wedding day in September 2014 was the best day ever. It was just how we had envisioned it to be, a relaxed environment with a small number of family and friends. But, 2 1/2 years into our marriage we got a life changing shock, Andy had a stroke at the age of 48. He had a blood clot on the left side of his brain, causing total numbness/weakness to the right side of his body, loss of balance & coordination, confusion and slurred speech.

Obviously, initially this caused great upset, tears and anger, especially on his part. But, his steely determination, stamina and perseverance to walk, build up his strength, and regain his speech has never made me more proud of him. It has been over a year now since the stroke. Andy can walk, but is still mostly numb with slight coordination problems, and has fallen over a few times.

He gets tired very easily, and suffers from Aphasia, which he calls his ‘brain fog’. This is where he has trouble with his speech, reading, and writing. He is disappointed that further recovery, if any, is now happening very slowly. He feels very frustrated, and just wants to move forward and get back to work, but he is unable to. He is a proud & loving man, and desperately wants to be able to earn money for us both.

This is why I am making this plea. I too am proud, and would not be asking for help if I was not in dire need of it. We have found hope. A pioneering treatment for people who have suffered a stroke. Dr Tobinick, at the ‘Institute of Neurological Recovery’ in Florida, USA, has developed an innovative way of injecting a drug called ‘Etanercept’ into a patient’s spinal fluid. This drug is currently licensed to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis, but this doctor has discovered it’s positive effects for stroke patients.

It is not a cure, but any improvement on Andy’s Aphasia & numbness will not only give him a chance of returning to work, it will also boost his confidence & self-esteem, as well as returning part of the ‘old Andy’ back to me. This means a trip over to Florida for the treatment.

There are no clinics anywhere else carrying out Dr Tobinick’s work. Having had a telephone consultation with the Florida clinic, it appears that Andy is a suitable candidate for the Perispinal Etanercept treatment. We are hoping to go towards the end of 2018. Obviously, this is going to be expensive, but if there is a chance, we have to take it. We have been made aware that depending on the outcome of the first spinal injection, he may need a second one a week later. Therefore, we need to be able to cover the cost of the second treatment too. On top of this, any money raised, we hope to cover the flights, accommodation & travel insurance.

Thank you so much for reading my plea. This means the world to me, as it is the only chance of further recovery for my amazing husband. Please take a look at the website for the ‘Institute of Neurological Recovery’ and watch some of the wonderful videos of patients’ recoveries. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I understand that not all of you reading this are able to contribute to our cause, thank you in any case. To help me get the word out to everyone, can you PLEASE SHARE my link on your Facebook Timeline.

Thank you once again. Kathryn xx
