QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC–(EMWNews – Aug. 15, 2008) – Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region, wants to inform the North Shore population that the harvesting of shellfish is now forbidden due to toxicity, in accordance with the prohibition order mentioned below, and pursuant to subsection 3(1) of the Management of Contaminated Fisheries Regulations, in the following shellfish areas.
Therefore, all shellfish areas of Upper and Middle North Shore up to the river Mingan are closed to harvest. Fisheries and Oceans Canada would like to remind the public that shellfish harvesting is strictly prohibited in closed areas. Eating shellfish from closed areas is hazardous to the health.

Pointe a Emile
From Pointe a Emile to a point near of the sawmill.
Pointe de Mille-Vaches
From Pointe a Boisvert’s navigation light eastward to boundary marks installed by Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
Battures aux Gibiers
From Pointe Orient to Cran a Gagnon.
Anse du Colombier
From a point located 300 meters east of Riviere Colombier’s mouth to Cap Colombier’s lighthouse.
Anse Noire
From the west bank of Anse Noire to a point located west of Baie des Ilets Jeremie.
Reserve Betsiamites Sud (Bersimis)
From the Fisheries and Oceans Canada marker located east of Pointe de Betsiamites, northward to the Fisheries and Oceans Canada marker.
Pointe-aux-Anglais
From Pointe aux Anglais to approximately 1 km east of the last house in Pointe-aux-Anglais (limit sign installed by Fisheries and Oceans Canada).
Anse Chouinard
From the southern point of Anse Chouinard to the western point of Anse aux Francais.
Baie des Homards
From the western point of Anse aux Francais to Pointe a Luc.
Baie des Forges
The waters of the portion of Riviere Moisie’s estuary lying to the east of a line extending due north from Pointe aux Americains to the shore.
Riviere Pigou
From a point west of Riviere Pigou to a point west of Riviere Manitou.
Riviere Sheldrake
Riviere Sheldrake’s estuary, upriver from the bridge on Road 138.
