Diagnosed with Cancer and lost job

Hello, my story is this. I am a 53 year old man originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and a huge Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Brewers and can’t forget the Vegas Golden Knights fan. I served my country as a U.S. Marine and I am a Poker Dealer in Las Vegas who fell on hard times. While this isn’t my first time I’ve found myself jobless it is my first time I’ve been diagnosed with cancer.

On Thursday August 17th my doctor woke me up with a phone call telling me I have a mass on my kidney that is cancerous. I have been getting a lot of testing done before that and was prepared for this outcome, but what I wasn’t prepared for was my boss calling me on August 27th telling me the poker room at TI is closing down and will be without a job starting August 28th. Yeah some notice there. Now anyone who knows Vegas knew the poker room was in a downward spiral and the closing was inevitable.

I was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC in January 1988 to February 1989, and have had trouble with my kidneys since the 1990’s being taken to the emergency room on several occasions through the years for kidney infections. Now of those not familiar with Camp Lejeune, the water was contaminated from August 1, 1953-Decemeber 31,1987 and has caused kidney, liver, bladder cancer among other health problems. I missed the cutoff date by two weeks. Now I do not know if my problems are connected and the according to the VA its not service connected and I don’t get the disability benefits of those who fall within those dates.

Now I do not know what is going to happen now as I get treatment for the cancer and how much time I will need to recover and any costs that I will incur for the treatment and living expenses over that period of time. I do not live beyond my means and live a pretty simple life, my car is paid off and just have basic monthly bills, (rent, phone, insurance, and a small credit card debt).

I know that times are rough for a lot of people and don’t know if this warrants any consideration in the eyes of many, but I have my faults and my life has seen its ups and downs, and this happens to rank pretty high on the downs. I really hate to ask for help but any that is given would be greatly appreciated and if you could share this with as many people as you can.

Thanks in advance to everyone who reads this.
