Fresenius Medical Care Named to 2008 “Most Ethical Companies” List
The Ethisphere Institute Recognizes Company’s
Commitment to Ethical Leadership and Corporate Social Responsibility
WALTHAM, Mass.–(EMWNews)–Fresenius Medical Care, operator of the world’s
largest provider of dialysis products and services, has been named by
The Ethisphere Institute as one of the “World’s
Most Ethical Companies” in the publication’s
second annual list. This year, Fresenius Medical Care joins other
honorees including Kellogg, GE, Cisco, BMW, Trader Joe’s
and IKEA.
“Responsible corporate citizenship goes hand
in hand with our UltraCare®
commitment to deliver excellent care to patients,”
said Mats Wahlstrom, Co-CEO of Fresenius Medical Care North America. “In
addition to our community education programs and support of national
charities, we strive to always go above and beyond regulatory mandates
and actively seek process improvements.”
“This recognition is a testament to all
Fresenius employees and to the diligent approach they take every day
towards their work,” added Senior Vice
President and Chief Compliance Officer Todd Kerr.
The Ethisphere Institute, a think-tank dedicated to the research and
promotion of profitable best practices in global governance, business
ethics, compliance and corporate responsibility, compiled the list via
an extensive research process that included reviews of over 10,000 of
the world’s leading companies on six
continents.
“Fresenius Medical Care is among the
companies honored this year because they have developed impressive and
meaningful ethical business practices, making them true standouts within
their industry,” said Alexander Brigham,
executive director of Ethisphere Institute. “They
go well beyond legal minimums, opting instead to bring about innovative
ideas that contribute to the public well being. By their actions, they
are forcing their competitors to follow suit or fall behind. Fresenius
truly embodies the notion that ethical business practices are more
profitable in the long run.”
Ethisphere analysts reviewed codes of ethics, litigation and regulatory
infraction histories; evaluated investment in innovation and sustainable
business practices; looked at companies’
activities to improve corporate citizenship; studied nominations from
senior executives, industry peers, suppliers and customers; and worked
with consumer action groups for feedback and rating. The award was
announced at a joint-conference held in June by Ethisphere and
Forbes entitled “Driving Profit through
Ethical Leadership.”
