Houston, TX (EMWNews) August 4, 2008 — Based in Houston, Texas, Gulf Interstate Engineering Company (Gulf) has served the energy industry since 1953, providing quality project management and engineering services to the worldwide oil and gas industry. Gulf has recently introduced the use of Data Viewer Total Document Management (Dv TDM) software from Practical Programs. This program will provide their clients with the best service possible, creating a new level of in-house productivity with regard to document management and a new level of client interaction.

Gulf is using Data Viewer Total Document Management as an additional layer of quality control to its existing document management tool set, and more specifically as an efficient means of working with project documents in the areas of project management and CAD drawing related engineering tasks.

Gulf Management has said, “We now have a database that our Clients will have the ability to access projects directly from Dv TDM using Internet Explorer.” This recent feature is part of an effort to bring the most technical aspects of the work flow into the everyday intranet environment and helps to bring all decision makers into the fray.

Gulf began using the Dv TDM software for CAD six months ago while searching for ways to heighten productivity and usability for its clients. The potential for automation was a key component in the selection of Dv TDM. Gulf Management also had this to say about the program, “We are particularly excited about the flexibility and user friendliness of Dv TDM in addition to having excellent control with all documentation for traceability purposes. Practical Programs is currently customizing a module to automate our transmittal process. We envision taking advantage of this flexibility to automate other internal processes in the future.” The software suite is expected to increase the productivity of Gulf’s project management and engineering functions.

Dv TDM includes all MS Office features. Dv TDM includes all of the functionality from Dv Office with support for office files, PDFs, e-mails, and more. From web based or desktop applications to system design options, transmittals, database linking and many other features, all will be useful in drafting and engineering applications such as are required at Gulf. The Dv TDM solution for document management also includes such highly configurable features such as Check in, Check Out, Revisions, and Reference File Management, all of which are flexible in their design and can be customized exactly to AutoCAD and related engineering-focused needs. A full audit trail of user activity, total document security, customizable document/drawing numbering, as well as file naming and revision number nomenclature is also available.
