Most of you know Clark has Muscular Dystrophy, and the disease continues progressing, requiring numerous appointments and physical therapy weekly. Clark cannot walk and uses an electric stair climber and chair to get to/from his second-story home.

Malenda is a Breast Cancer Survivor and is now plagued with heart issues, requiring many appointments. She tries to put on a solid face and ensure Clark is taken care of before herself. But the heart issues only tire her out twice as fast, and she is barely functioning. In addition, she was always cooking meals for the church elderly and cries now when she hears one passed away after surviving Ian.

The lack of a vehicle has them relying on friends to get groceries. I am afraid that no car will be more missed doctor appointments and failing health that puts one of them in the hospital again. Hurricane Ian caused much damage to their cars that FEMA won’t help with, and Malenda’s Art Gallery also sustained damage. Due to Clark’s lack of mobility, and Malenda’s slowing mobility, they were forced to ride out the hurricane and THANKFULLY SURVIVED. The storm surge was nearly 12 feet and rose 3 to 4 feet at their home.

Malenda’s Art Gallery was their primary source of income and the damage and the tourism being very low afterward have stifled their ability to earn. I don’t need to tell you how difficult it is to make ends meet as an artist, so it is no surprise that the loss of both their cars has tremendously impacted their ability to fulfill their livelihoods and keep their health appointments. It’s been nearly two months since Ian’s destruction, and this proud couple can’t do it alone much longer.
