Hamilton Sundstrand Signs On-Site Support Agreement with Japan Airlines International

SHOW -- Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp.

(NYSE: UTX), signed an On-Site Support agreement with Japan Airlines

International (JALI) covering electric power system and pneumatic system

products on the airline's fleet of 132 large commercial aircraft including

Boeing 747-400s, 767s and 777s.



    The 10-year program will begin in August. Work will be performed at

Japan Airlines International's Narita, Japan, maintenance facility.



    Hamilton Sundstrand will supply parts to support JALI's maintenance of

electric power system components including generators and integrated drive

generators, and pneumatic system components including valves, starters and

air cycle machines.



    In addition, Hamilton Sundstrand will assign a dedicated on-site

advisor to provide technical advice and recommendations about product

operation, maintenance work scope and repair to JALI engineering and

maintenance personnel.



    As part of the agreement, Hamilton Sundstrand performs an expanded

supply chain and technical role at the airline. This performance-based

material management program is designed to lower total costs through a

simplified supply chain and improved product performance.



    "This type of agreement provides significant benefits for the airline

including low, predictable costs," said Mike Dumais, Hamilton Sundstrand

Customer Service vice president and general manager. "By tapping directly

into Hamilton Sundstrand's product knowledge, we anticipate that JALI will

see improved system operating performance."



    JALI line maintenance and shop maintenance capabilities will provide

timely communication, troubleshooting and recommendations. By working

closely with JALI, Hamilton Sundstrand will be able to improve the

reliability of its products.

Keita Sataka, Japan Airlines International vice president of Engineering &

Maintenance. "We expect that this On-Site Support program with Hamilton

Sundstrand will contribute to improved quality and safety for our

maintenance activity."



    Hamilton Sundstrand now has similar long-term OSS agreements in place

with eight of the world's 20 largest airlines.



    The JAL Group is Asia's biggest airline group in terms of sales

revenues and passengers carried annually. JAL Group airlines serve 214

airports in 33 countries and territories, including 60 airports in Japan.

The international network covers more than 240 passenger routes and 37

cargo routes, and the domestic network covers 156 routes. JAL and its seven

subsidiary airlines make a total of up to 1,200 domestic and international

routes passenger flights a day.



    With approximately 23,000 employees in the air transport segment, JAL

Group operates a fleet of some 270 aircraft including Boeing 747s and 777s,

and is now in the process of a major fleet renewal, introducing more

fuel-efficient small and medium aircraft such as the Boeing 737 New

Generation series, and in the future the new high-tech Boeing 787

Dreamliner.
