Jiujiang hosted the 2023 International Travel Operators Conference and the 2nd (Jiangxi – Jiujiang) Yangtze River Economic Belt Culture and Tourism Consumption Season to promote the inbound market

November 07, 2023 – (EMWNews) – Jiujiang, a city with more than 2,200 years of history and located at the dividing point of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, is striving to become more popular among international travelers and will spare no effort to meet the challenges for them.

According to the 2023 International Travel Operators Conference and the Second (Jiangxi – Jiujiang) Yangtze River Economic Belt Culture and Tourism Consumption Season, which started on November 1, the city will find more ways to take advantage of its rich culture derived from the Yangtze River and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lushan Mountain to attract the world’s attention.

Organized by the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the Jiujiang Municipal People’s Government, the conference addressed some of the challenges facing the city’s travel industry, including marketing promotion, visa application, electronic payment and transportation costs.

Jiujiang Mayor Jiang Wending said the city is on a fast track to make itself known as a prosperous, harmonious, beautiful and happy destination for travelers. As a key city along the Yangtze River, it will join hands with neighboring cities to promote the economy of the river belt and achieve a win-win situation.

His remarks were echoed by Zhu Shanzhong, ambassador of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, who emphasized the geographical advantage of Jiujiang City. It is the only city in China with a world famous mountain (Lushan) along the Yangtze River. “How to build a strong city brand by combining the scenery and local culture, while providing quality travel services, is the key to success.” Zhu said.

Some of the world’s leading travel companies, including Trip.com Group and Tui China, shared their views on how to promote the city in the overseas market.

Tang Lan, senior vice president of Trip.com Group, said the local infrastructure needs to be improved, and cultural festivals with themes such as music and outdoor activities will help promote its influence among international travelers.

Zhao Hongyu, chief operating officer of TUI China, urged Jiujiang to be considerer as part of the overall Yangtze River promotion campaign, as the river is a very impressive icon for foreign tourists. “We need to tell a good story about the connection between Jiujiang City and the Yangtze River, then they will be interested in visiting.”

Aside from the cultural sites and poems written by world-famous Chinese poets such as Li Bai and Su Shi, cruises are considered to be a hit among travelers. Some themed itineraries have been released along the Yangtze River as part of efforts to promote the river.

According to the 2023 Jiangxi Jiujiang Yangtze River Economic Belt Cultural Tourism Consumption Index Report released by Trip.com Group at the conference, the belt covers an area of more than 2 million square kilometers and 40 percent of the country’s population. And leisure travel along the river is accelerating, especially among younger generations.

In order to stand out from the series of cities along the Yangtze River, Jiujiang unveiled its city tourism brand, which can be translated as “leisure in Lushan, poetry in picturesque Jiujiang,” at the conference after four months of thoughtful discussion.

The conference witnessed the signing of MOUs between local travel authorities and international and Chinese travel companies such as TUI, China Youth Travel Service, Wild China and others.

Other activities such as the FAM tour in Jiujiang and the night markets showcasing local handicrafts and cultural elements, were well received by the participants.

In addition to Lushan Mountain, Yangtze River and Poyang Lake, other iconic scenic spots in Jiujiang include Bailudong, one of China’s ancient top academic institutes, and some ancient architecture such as Xunyanglou and Pipa Pavilion.
