League Supports State Green Building Standards

SACRAMENTO, CA–(EMWNews – July 21, 2008) – The League of California Cities appreciates

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s leadership in developing a green building code

that places California at the forefront of energy conservation and reducing

greenhouse gas emissions from new buildings. This code was recently

adopted by the California Building Standards Commission.

The new code is consistent with the League’s policy to support programs and

legislation that encourage sustainable building practices, including energy

and water efficiency.

“These new codes and standards will help the state move forward in meeting

its efforts to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions,” said Chris

McKenzie, executive director of the League. “We appreciate the Governor’s

leadership on this issue. This is a prime example of why earlier this year

the League presented the Governor with our first Sustainable Community

Leadership Award.”
