Luxe Expressions’ 2008 Stationery Wedding Line Embraces the Environment

According to data from The Wedding Report, a provider of statistics and market research for the wedding industry, the average number of guests at today’s weddings is 167. Figure the number of invitations it takes to attract such a crowd and you quickly realize that there’s a lot of paper being shuttled back and forth between invitees and the soon-to-be newlyweds. Where all that paper ends up is a concern to environmentally conscious people around the globe.

Atlanta, GA (EMWNews) July 29, 2008 — Summer months aren’t only the hottest according to the thermometer, they’re also the hottest months for weddings. With more than 2.3 million couples set to tie the knot this year, it’s almost inevitable that a nuptials invitation is bound to grace your mailbox within the next few months.

It makes sense for us as a company to continue to embrace these environmentally friendly steps

Luxe Expressions, a couture design studio that specializes in designing custom wedding suites and other stationery, is addressing those concerns with its recently introduced 2008 line of products. The Atlanta-based company prints on letterpresses and offers designs that work with environmentally safe papers and even offers some specialty papers that grow flowers and herbs when planted in a garden.

“They’re very popular during the wedding season,” said Debra Saba, the Founder and Creative Director of Luxe Expressions. “It is the height of recycling and they can serve as wedding favors for folks who want to give a lasting gift to both their guests and to the environment.”

Of course, there’s always the possibility that recycling the suite will be the last thing on the mind of the people who receive an invitation produced by Luxe Expressions. After all, when the mailman delivers a piece of art to your mailbox your first inclination is to save it. While Saba won’t begrudge anybody with such an inclination, she does want to make it easier for the rest of the folks who receive a Luxe Expression piece in the mail to make an environmentally kind decision.

Her concerns reflect a larger trend when it comes to weddings. The Green Bride Guide, a book being published later this year, aims to help couples plan a green wedding. More and more of them have already found creative ways to leave the smallest possible imprint on the environment on their wedding days. Some are using hybrid vehicles instead of lengthy limousines; many are setting up carpools for their guests; still others are opting for outdoor receptions instead of the energy consuming reception halls; some elect to throw birdseed instead of rice.

Saba said she hopes that by utilizing environmentally friendly papers and printing processes she can help send a message that goes beyond the words contained within the invitations.

“It makes sense for us as a company to continue to embrace these environmentally friendly steps,” Saba said. “We want people to leave weddings with beautiful memories. We don’t want them leaving behind a big eco-footprint in the process.”
