Microsoft ‘HealthVault’ Leader to Speak at Employer Summit on Chronic Disease
WASHINGTON, DC–(EMWNews – July 22, 2008) – James R. Mault, MD, a key figure behind
Microsoft’s innovative “HealthVault” online personal health platform and an
accomplished physician, researcher and inventor, will speak at a September
Summit in Florida about how personal health records (PHR) can aid the fight
against chronic disease in the workplace.
Dr. Mault, director of new products and business development for the Health
Solutions Group at Microsoft Corp., will be a featured speaker at the Sept.
8 to 10 Integrated Care Summit, hosted by the National Association of
Manufacturers and DMAA: The Care Continuum Alliance at the Westin Diplomat
Resort and Spa, in Hollywood, Fla.
Microsoft HealthVault is designed to put individuals in control of their
health information. A free HealthVault account helps users collect, store
and share information with other trusted individuals — family members, for
example — and offers numerous applications and devices to help manage
fitness, diet and health.
Dr. Mault came to Microsoft with more than 25 years’ experience as a senior
executive in the medical device and pharmaceutical industry, as well as
clinical medicine. He founded five medical device and health monitoring
services companies, led them to develop novel technologies, secured FDA
approvals and established strategic partnerships with dozens of Fortune 500
companies. He is board-certified in both general surgery and cardiothoracic
surgery, having specialty practices in heart and lung transplantation,
thoracic oncology and critical care.
Dr. Mault has conducted academic medical research under numerous grant
awards from National Institutes of Health, American Cancer Society Inc. and
other organizations; is the author of more than 100 published scientific
articles, chapters and books; and the named inventor of dozens of issued
and pending patents for a variety of medical devices and health monitoring
systems and informatics. Dr. Mault maintains a clinical faculty position at
the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center.
Recent estimates place the cost of chronic disease at $1.3 trillion
annually and, of that, $1.1 trillion represents the cost of lost
productivity. The Integrated Care Summit, now in its second year,
demonstrates to employers and other health care purchasers how prevention,
wellness and disease management programs can improve employee health and
productivity — and lower health care costs — for U.S. manufacturers and
other businesses. Learn more at www.IntegratedCareSummit.org.
