Museum of Political Corruption To Screen Election-Themed Documentaries for Free

2024 DISRUPT Film Series connects audiences with leading political filmmakers.

Albany, New York May 20, 2024 (EMWNews.com) – In the biggest election year in history, the Museum of Political Corruption’s DISRUPT Film Series is hosting a series of free screening events for the public. Starting in March 2024, four election-themed documentaries will be presented as virtual screenings, accompanied by a Youtube Live discussion between the filmmakers and other special guests. The selected 2024 films are UnDivide US, What is Democracy?, Dark Money, and A Citizen’s Guide to Preserving Democracy.

The first film, UnDivide US, launched the series in March, to a live audience of over 100 people from across different countries and continents. The second film, What is Democracy?, is now available for screening ahead of its live discussion on Thursday, May 23rd, 8:00 PM EST, featuring director Astra Taylor, Dave O’Brien (Policy Director at RepresentUs) and Alyssa Canty (Director of Youth Programs at Common Cause). The discussion will be moderated by an Anthropologist of Technology and Professor at UVA’s Media and Latin Studies departments David Nemer.

“It is not hyperbole to state that this year, American democracy is at stake,” says Bruce Roter, museum founder. “With this year’s DISRUPT Film Series lineup, we offer our campaign for preserving basic freedoms and the dignity we deserve. We hope you will join our election-themed DISRUPT Film Series and above all, vote.”

What is Democracy? reflects on a word we too often take for granted. What does democracy mean in today’s world? How can we work to strengthen and protect democratic values? Amidst growing concerns over the fragility of democratic institutions, this event provides a platform for meaningful dialogue and reflection.

Viewers must first sign up to receive exclusive access to view the film. The discussion panel will be live-streamed on the Museum’s YouTube channel.
