New York Governor David A. Paterson to Give Major Economic Address at July 31 National Press Club Luncheon

WASHINGTON, July 23 /EMWNews/ -- New York Governor David

A. Paterson will discuss the state of the American economy at a National

Press Club luncheon on Thursday, July 31.

Governor Paterson will visit Washington D.C. and the National Press

Club as the nation is suffering from the effects of the subprime mortgage

crisis and increasing energy prices - topics the governor will likely

address during his speech and the question-and-answer session that will

follow.

Paterson was elected to represent Harlem in the New York State Senate

at the age of 31, becoming the youngest Senator in Albany. In 2003, he

became the minority leader of the New York State Senate, the first

non-white legislative leader in New York's history. He made history again

in 2004 when he became the first visually impaired person to address the

Democratic National Convention.

He became New York's first African American lieutenant governor in 2007

and became New York's 55th, and first African American Governor on March

17, 2008. Paterson, who is legally blind, is nationally recognized as a

leading advocate for the visually and physically impaired.

The speakers' luncheon begins promptly at 12:30 p.m. in the Ballroom at

the National Press Club. Remarks start at 1 p.m., followed by a

question-and-answer session. For advance ticket reservations, call (202)

662-7501, or email [email protected]. Admission is $16 for National

Press Club members, $28 for NPC guests, and $35 for general admission.
