This Thursday, Reduce Your Carbon Footprint and Help WWF-Canada Fight Climate Change

2008-08-19 15:13:00

TORONTO, ONTARIO–(EMWNews – Aug. 19, 2008) – WWF-Canada will be joining Canada Post this Thursday, August 21st from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM in Toronto’s Dundas Square to promote The Good Life, a program designed to help individuals reduce their carbon footprint, and epost, Canada Post’s new online bill delivery service that allows customers to reduce the amount of paper entering their homes and lower their greenhouse gas emissions.

The Good Life is a community for Canadians who want to make simple but significant changes in their lifestyles that help fight climate change and reduce their footprint on the planet. Small changes in individual lifestyles such as taking public transit, eating locally produced food or shopping with reusable bags all contribute to reducing greenhouse gases. Join The Good Life to take action and encourage others to do the same.

WWF-Canada staff, the WWF “Panda” mascot, and Canada Post employees will be in Dundas Square encouraging the public to demonstrate their commitment to reducing their carbon footprint by signing up for epost and joining The Good Life.

“Individual actions, when combined with the actions of many others, can make a significant difference in the fight against dangerous climate change,” said Monica Da Ponte, Manager, Marketing Alliances, WWF-Canada. “By receiving their bills electronically, individuals can avoid the unnecessary production of greenhouse gases that would have been produced in harvesting trees, paper production and conventional bill delivery. It’s easy for the consumer and good for the planet.”

To date, almost 14,000 Canadians have joined The Good Life and together saved over 34 thousand tonnes of greenhouse gases, equivalent to taking nearly 6,000 cars off the road for a year.

In addition to encouraging Canadians to take action on climate change, Canada Post is contributing $1 for the first 150,000 new registrants to epost’s service in support of WWF-Canada’s conservation programs To date, more than 130,000 people have registered for epost through this campaign.
