US Considers a Sporadic Antitrust Move on Breaking Google’s Illegal Monopoly

Noida, Uttar Pradesh Aug 16, 2024 (EMWNews.com) – This antitrust venture has already enforced some soliciting inputs from outside of the company. While the judge reigned the Alphabet unit to monopolize search online advertisements a week before, the US Department of Justice is considering options that include breaking up this Tech Giant. The overall worth of this gigantic company is over $2 trillion. Google mostly has captured the Android market with some lucrative offers.

Yet, divesting Google from Android devices is going to be the motive of this radical move. One of the spokespersons from the justice department said that the court’s decision would come forth with appropriate steps and directions if the judge can find any unfair suppression of its potential competitors.

The former chief technologist for the FTC, Neil Chilson said that the talk of breaking up Google was “total wishcasting”. He also added, “Nothing in Judge Mehta’s rather standard antitrust approach suggests a breakup is a plausible remedy. A breakup wouldn’t address the core conduct that the court found problematic: exclusive contracts for default placements.” As per last week’s verdict where Google was accused of violating antitrust and they were allegedly spending billions of dollars to maintain their monopoly illegally.

In the last 4 years, Federal antitrust has previously sued Meta Platforms, Amazon.com, and Apple. They claimed that these companies were illegally maintaining their monopoly. Microsoft has settled with a similar sort of justice in 2004. There was a false claim saying that Microsoft had forced people to become Windows users from their previous Internet Explorer’s web browser.

The former general counsel for the FTC, Alden Abbott said, “The court of appeals in US v Microsoft (2001) flatly rejected breaking up that company, even though its illegal monopolizing conduct was not found by the court to create beneficial efficiencies. Breaking up Google probably will not be ordered. That is fortunate. A Google breakup would be one of the most economically destructive acts in the annals of American antitrust.” According to him, this can be disastrous for many businesses if the divestiture of Google materializes in the future.
