Using this platform to ask for help is probably one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made. When you reach a point in your life that you have to ask complete strangers for help getting out of a mess you put yourself in is very humbling……and extremely embarrassing.
Without going into too much detail here, I will summarize by simply stating that I screwed up. My wife and I separated a little over a year ago and in my attempts to rebuild my credit, as well as continue to take care of others, I bit off way more than I can chew. I am retired from the Marine Corps, receive disability from the VA and have a good paying, full time job.
However, over the course of the past several months, small missteps have led me to be completely overwhelmed. Recent attempts to find a second job have been unsuccessful. I’ve tried debt consolidation, but my current circumstances wouldn’t get me approved.
If it was only affecting me, I would let everything go. But, it isn’t. My mistakes are causing unnecessary heartache for my wife and daughter that lives with her. It is affecting my sons that live with me.
I am well aware this course of action could get me ridiculed. While I sincerely hope that doesn’t happen, it is something I am willing to accept.
What I am asking for is your help. Help in getting the necessary funds to get caught up and my life back on track. I am asking complete strangers to find it in their hearts to help someone that made small mistakes that led to big problems.
While my financial problems exceed what I am asking, this amount will help me at least get caught up and provide a bit of breathing room. It would also allow me more time to continue to find a second job so I can completely get out of this hole on my own. Currently behind two months on the mortgage, one month on my truck payment and over a month on all other bills. I can make my payments, but can’t get caught up. As each month passes, late fees, as well as basic cost of living expenses (gas, groceries, household items, etc.) push me further in the hole.
There is an old saying that pretty much sums this up. “You never know unless you ask”. I swallowed my pride and am asking for your help.
There are hundreds, if not thousands of others out there that have had devastating events affect their lives. From tragic deaths to natural disasters, most recently hurricane Florence. They are without a doubt in much more need than I am. I can promise you this though. If I can get the help needed to get my finances and life back on track, it will be my mission to continue to pay it forward and help others when they need it.
