AMACO/Brent Proudly Introduces QuickCenterTM – The Revolutionary Way for Centering Clay on the Wheel
INDIANAPOLIS, IN–(EMWNews – July 30, 2008) – AMACO/Brent proudly introduces the
QuickCenter™ system, a revolutionary new way to center clay on the
potter’s wheel. For centuries, one of the greatest challenges for
beginning and intermediate level potters has been centering clay on the
wheel. The QuickCenter™ clay centering device aids free-hand centering
for the thrill of throwing without the stress.
To successfully manipulate clay, it is essential to properly center the
clay on the wheel before it starts to spin. In the past, potters were
intimidated by the process of learning to center clay. QuickCenter™
makes centering clay on
the wheel quick and easy so students of all ages do not lose time and
patience. From the beginning, hobbyists can throw plates and pots
successfully on a potter’s wheel with QuickCenter™ because it cuts an
exact plug of clay and delivers it locked and centered to the wheel head.
In 2007, QuickCenter™ was developed by two professors at Eastern
Illinois University. David Griffin and Dwain Naragon sketched their idea,
successfully tested a prototype and approached AMACO/Brent with it as an
industry leader in support of ceramics education. AMACO owns Brent
pottery wheels with 13 different styles designed for professional
pottery studios, school classrooms and hobbyists. In 1982, AMACO/Brent
designed and manufactured the first potter’s wheel with wheelchair
accessibility. AMACO/Brent immediately recognized the cutting edge
potential of QuickCenter™ to enrich art education.
Teachers, professional potters and students appreciate the QuickCenter™
for its convenience. With QuickCenter™, potters start creations
right away with perfectly centered clay. According to John Graves, a
retired pottery instructor at Cumberland County High School, “My students
definitely showed a little more enthusiasm, a little more confidence than
what I’ve seen in the weeks and weeks of wheel trials with the
QuickCenter™, I think the kids would certainly have more inspiration to
become wheel workers.”
The QuickCenter™ System features a unique recessed bat set and a simple
canister/plunger that handles 3 to 4 pounds of clay along with an
instructional DVD to get started right away. The revolutionary
QuickCenter™ System will be available August, 2008. Pre-orders are
taken by calling the AMACO/Brent customer service department at
