My military doctor was supposed to perform a L4-5 spine fusion without metal screws or rods and he even claimed as much in my military records. For 22 years the VA Healthcare System made the same claim over and over from one doctor to the next. So you can imagine my surprise when my spine surgeon asked me about my failed L5-S1 spine fusion? I told him NO! I HAD A L4-5 SPINE FUSION! Not according to your CT scan he replied. My doctor’s assessment: both the L4-5 and L5-S1 facet joints had been violated at the time of my previous surgical procedure. On April 2, 2019 I had a transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion L4 to S1. What should have been a 5 hour surgical procedure took 7 hours because the surgeon had to repair the damage caused by the military doctor.

The pain had gotten worse from year to year but I managed to be a civil servant for 15 years after my honorable discharge from the US Army. Unfortunately, the pain became too much for me to continue and in 2004 I lost my career along with my marriage ended. I was only 35 years old. By the time 2015 came around the pain had made me housebound.

The Veterans Affairs covers my healthcare costs but they do not cover the expenses for the help I need with almost every aspect of my daily life. It takes about $6750 a year to take care of my needs.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to read my campaign. The assistance you provide will help brighten my days.
