McCain's '$5 Million Gaffe,' Keeping Phil Gramm in the Fold Show How Out of
Touch McCain Is
WASHINGTON, Aug. 19 /EMWNews/ -- The Democratic National
Committee today released a new video called "Five Million" that uses
McCain's own words, the impact of his tax plan and reports that McCain is
still considering former Senator Phil Gramm as a potential Treasury
Secretary to show how out of touch he is with the challenges facing
America's working families.
While McCain's own household would receive a tax cut of more than
$370,000, middle class families will see a cut of just $319 from the McCain
tax plan, with 101 million households receiving nothing. Instead of
offering working families tax relief, McCain and advisors like Phil Gramm
-- who the New York Times reports is still being considered a possible
Treasury Secretary pick by the McCain campaign -- have dismissed those
challenges as "psychological" and complained about America becoming "a
nation of whiners."
"John McCain's 'leave no millionaire behind' economic agenda may make
sense to Phil Gramm, but the 101 million households that will get nothing
under the McCain tax plan understand how out of touch he is when it comes
to the economic challenges facing America's families," said DNC spokesman
Damien LaVera. "Since John McCain thinks only people making more than $5
million are rich, it is no wonder his tax plan would hand hundreds of
thousands of dollars in new tax giveaways to millionaires or that his
potential treasury secretary thinks our country is 'a nation of whiners'."
