Eklin Introduces RapidStart Plus(TM) Digital Radiography System at AVMA

Leading DR System for Veterinary Care Provides Superb Image Quality More

                                 Affordably

SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 21 /EMWNews/ -- Eklin Medical Systems, a

leading provider of digital imaging, PACS (Picture Archiving and

Communications Systems) and practice management software, is introducing

the RapidStart Plus(TM) digital radiography (DR) system at the annual

American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) conference being held in New

Orleans, July 19-22, 2008. The new all inclusive system comes with a

17-inch, high resolution touch-screen acquisition and review workstation,

full 14"x17" imaging panel and Fusion eFilm mirrored PACS server with

30,000 uncompressed image storage capacity. Upgrades and options, such as

off-site image storage, can be added based on a practice's needs.

"We wanted to offer a robust and affordable foundation for our client's

digital imaging and image management needs," said Rob Royea, vice president

of sales for Eklin. "RapidStudy Plus is based on an open architecture which

allows our clients to scale as their practices grow or change. For example,

should a veterinarian wish to add on a digital image reading room, they

could easily connect workstations to the system and view images in the

reading room or anywhere throughout the clinic using our enterprise eFilm

solution."

Just as digital cameras have made photography easier and more efficient

by eliminating film, DR systems provide the veterinarian with a

radiographic image that can be viewed immediately onsite or at a review

workstation, including a high-resolution monitor, without the need for film

development. DR systems also offer sophisticated image processing tools,

giving the doctor much greater depth of information that can be enlarged or

manipulated for far better detail, resulting in closer scrutiny of

potential areas of concern. Eklin's 14"x17" imaging sensor panel provides

the largest full imaging surface in the market and is equally suitable for

large dogs or small cats.

Equally critical is the ability to electronically store, archive and

retrieve digital radiographs quickly and efficiently. In this way

veterinarians can quickly compare treatment progress between previous

radiographs and current images. Additionally, the RapidStart Plus system is

fully DICOM compliant allowing its seamless integration with the practice's

other imaging modalities.

"All of our technologies, including the RapidStart Plus system, are

based on DICOM standards which are rapidly becoming the gold standard in

veterinary care," said Royea. "This compliance provides seamless

integration of a practice's digital imaging modalities, PACS and practice

management software."

The RapidStart Plus system's built-in DICOM eFilm diagnostic

workstation, together with the multi-modality PACS server, provides

storage, retrieval and viewing of any DICOM imaging studies such as DR,

ultrasound, MRI and CT. The system has a dual high-speed Gigabit Ethernet

connectivity, RAID-1 redundant hard disk system and an external back-up

device. Images can also be stored off-site using Eklin's RapidPACS (TM) Web

Edition service which can also scale with practice growth or as needed.
