‘Flyer Beware: American Airlines Fined 7.1 Million Dollars by FAA for Putting Passengers’ and Crews’ Lives at Risk…Again’

"When it comes to the Airlines the Odds are Good that the Goods are
Odd" -- Kate Hanni
NAPA VALLEY, Calif., Aug. 15 /EMWNews/ -- The following
was released by CAPBOR in response to the fining of American Airlines by
the FAA:
"This once again shows the airlines cannot be held accountable for even
the most basic of security measures, and further proves the need for
Congress and the Department of Transportation to step in and enforce
existing laws which they have clearly been avoiding due to unearned
sympathy for the airlines. Lobbying dollars poured into our Congress to
plead with them once again NOT to pass meaningful passengers rights
standards, and that's just unacceptable. When it comes to the airlines and
Congress...the Odds are Good that the Goods are Odd," declared CAPBOR
Executive Director Kate Hanni.
"Cracks in the fuselage on Southwest, incorrect wiring on American
Airlines, no adequate drug and alcohol testing, deliberately neglecting
safety issues that would jeopardize the lives of millions of people. The
airlines cannot be trusted to uphold the most basic of safety standards,"
said Hanni. "The FAA accused American of returning aircraft to service
after problems had been reported, including flying two planes 58 times in
December after delaying repairs. Now they are being allowed to effectively
merge with British Airways without going through the normal approvals?
Flyer Beware!" she added.
Flyersrights.org has thousands of recent voice mail messages,
e-mailable for media use. Strandings of 6-7 hours nearly every day, rapid
decompression of Jets, air rage nearing mutiny yesterday on American
Airlines flight 85 from JFK to SFO as passengers were denied boarding with
no denied boarding compensation, their baggage being sent ahead without
them due to its increased value. Lives are at risk, the Government must
step in and provide the necessary oversight and holds the airlines
accountable for these egregious practices. "Do we have to have a
catastrophic incident before meaningful standards are made into law? What's
it gonna take?" asked Hanni.
