Hi. My name is Robert Garfinkle. My brother-in-law, Marc Stein, is suffering from stage 3 Bladder and Prostate cancer.
Marc’s cancer, discovered in April of 2016, was stage 1. At that time, doctors began treating Marc’s cancer with immunotherapy and surgery. The treatments were unsuccessful. Marc’s cancer, has become more aggressive, has metastasized and been classified as stage 3.
Despite a grim prognosis, doctors feel strongly that his only chance of survival depends on the removal of his bladder and related organs in hopes to prevent his cancer from spreading to other areas of the body. Marc’s surgery will take place on December 1st of this year.
Marc is not the only one affected by his cancer. His loving wife Jodi (my sister), has been there for Marc in every capacity she can be but because of her disability, she can not support them financially through this time. Since his diagnosis and first regimen of treatments, he has been doing his best to still provide for both of them, and they’ve managed to just get by.
Marc’s upcoming surgery and recovery will require him to be out of work for close to 3 months. Marc and Jodi do not have enough finances to ride this out. His last cancer treatment and recovery, was all preceded by other misfortunes over the last few years, when Marc needed Aortic bypass, heart and a follow up surgery performed on his stomach relating to his bypass.
I can’t impress upon you enough, that aside from all surgeries and timeout for recovery up to this point, Marc and Jodi remained strong and hopeful. Marc, whenever he could, would work to support them both, making ends meet, and my sister Jodi by his side, being strong for both of them.
As I stated earlier, Marc cannot afford to work, he needs time to recover with my sister Jodi tending to him while they both fight for his life. Donations will go towards food, rent, bills, household expenses, medical needs, and medical / car insurance. I look to raise $20,000.00 to help them out.
In closing, I will share with you what type of gentleman Marc Stein is. He is a giver, a lover, a great husband. He is the type of guy who maybe bashful to reach out to ask for your help yet give you the shirt off his back in the dead of winter so you could be warm. He is an excellent chef, has a great sense of humor, nothing short of a wonderful brother in law and a good friend.
But most of all, he loves my sister, and it would be a tragedy to see her lose her husband and our family suffer a loss such as Marc, our brother-in-law, son-in-law… a good soul.
