The Brain Tumor Foundation Pays Tribute to Legendary Yankee Bobby
Murcer
NEW YORK, July 14 /EMWNews/ -- The Brain Tumor Foundation (BTF)
mourns the passing of Yankees icon, Bobby Murcer. His talent and heart,
both on the field and off, will be cherished -- and deeply missed.
"If I can save lives, I'm in," was Bobby's immediate response to being
asked to join the BTF team as an advocate and spokesperson for The Road to
Early Detection Campaign.
Bobby was to be honored at The Brain Tumor Foundation's Annual Tribute
Dinner on November 19th, 2008 for helping to increase public awareness
about the importance of the early detection of brain tumors. He was also
going to be involved in the September launch of the Campaign's first Mobile
MRI Unit which will begin offering free MRI brain scans to people in New
York City. Eventually, The Road to Early Detection Campaign will roll out
nationwide.
"Regrettably, brain cancer has taken Bobby Murcer from us earlier than
we expected -- earlier than any of us wanted," said Michael Schreiber,
Chairman of BTF. He promised that, "BTF will continue its mission to make
early detection of brain tumors customary and affordable. Because, by
finding and treating a brain tumor early in its development, thousands of
lives may be saved; thousands of loved ones like Bobby Murcer. Bobby was
ready to push the public to recognize the effects of this dreaded disease
and the importance of early detection. His memory will live on to fight
this battle."
The Brain Tumor Foundation offers its deepest condolences to Bobby's
wife, Kay, and to the entire Murcer family.
