Luster Products’ Philanthropic Arm Raises Almost $70,000 for Cancer Research, Children With Special Needs and Fresh Water Wells in Africa

CHICAGO, Aug. 8 /EMWNews/ -- Business and community leaders from

across the country brought their golf clubs and their A-games to Silver

Lake Country Club, in Orland Park, IL, for the Black Heritage Foundation's

19th annual charity golf outing. The event benefitted several organizations

that receive charitable funding from the philanthropic arm of Chicago-based

Luster Products, Inc.

"The golf outing is significant," said Freddie Luster, executive vice

president and director of R&D for Luster Products, and chairman of the

Luster Products Black Heritage Golf Outing, "because it's the sole

supporter of the Black Heritage Foundation right now." This year's event

raised $65,000 for its 2008 beneficiaries, including the American Cancer

Society and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

"The American Cancer Society has benefitted from the Luster Black

Heritage Foundations' generosity for over the 10 years," said Adrienne

White, vice president of health initiatives and advocacy for the American

Cancer Society.

"We're thrilled with the new relationship," said Stephanie Springs,

chief executive officer of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. "[The Black Heritage

Foundation] has helped us with funding a couple of our wishes that we have

done this year."

Other 2008 beneficiaries of the Foundation are the Joseph Assignment, a

non-profit organization that builds wells that provide fresh drinking water

to children and families in African countries such as Ghana; and the

Richard C. Haley Scholarship Foundation, a non-profit organization that

awards college scholarships to Chicago-area students.

Since it was established in 1989, the Foundation has donated more than

$1 million to worthy causes.
