Marci A. Gilligan Named Partner in White Collar Defense Practice at Kamlet Shepherd & Reichert, LLP
2008-07-16 17:45:00
DENVER–(EMWNews)–Kamlet Shepherd & Reichert, LLP announced today that Marci Gilligan has
joined the firm as a partner in the White Collar Defense and Criminal
Defense practice areas, adding strength of expertise and reputation to
the already successful niche practice. She specializes in the
representation of corporate and individual clients facing criminal and
regulatory actions in both state and federal courts. Ms. Gilligan has
successfully defended significant and complex federal trials, ranging
from securities fraud to tax fraud, involving CEOs and corporate
officers of Fortune 500 companies. Among her many accomplishments, Ms.
Gilligan was most recently trial counsel in some of Colorado’s
highest-profile white collar cases, including the 2007 insider trading
trial of the former CEO of Qwest Communications, and the 2004 securities
fraud trial of a Vice President of Qwest Communications, in which she
won acquittals on all counts.
Ms. Gilligan is equally competent in the boardroom as the courtroom, as
her regulatory practice routinely requires her to advise companies in
the context of corporate compliance and internal investigations.
Additionally, she has represented clients in complex litigation
pertaining to the Clean Water Act, the Air Carrier Access Act and the
Federal Tort Claims Act. She has also briefed and argued cases before
the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Beyond her white collar practice, Ms. Gilligan remains committed to
indigent defense. In 2007, she was appointed by her peers, and
unanimously approved by the judges of the U.S. District Court of
Colorado, for membership on the Criminal Justice Act Panel. Ms. Gilligan
received similar honors by her appointment to the Board of the Faculty
of Federal Advocates.
“We’re thrilled to
have been able to attract someone of Marci’s
caliber,” said Fredric Winocur, partner and
chair of the white collar group at Kamlet Shepherd. “She
is widely regarded as one of the rising stars in the legal community,
and was a key member of the defense teams on some of the biggest cases we’ve
seen in the last 10 years. Marci is the perfect complement to our
existing practice.”
“I’m very excited
to join Kamlet Shepherd,” said Gilligan. “They
offer an unparalleled platform to practice criminal defense, and they
get incredible results. I was also impressed with the entrepreneurial
drive and passion about both the development of the firm, and the
practice of law. There is a real energy here.”
Gilligan earned a bachelor’s degree from the
University of Kansas and her law degree from the University of Kansas
School of Law. Prior to joining the firm, Gilligan was partner in the
Denver offices of Richilano & Gilligan.
