BALTIMORE, Aug. 13 /EMWNews/ -- As part of Parents' Magazine ongoing series of 10-Best articles, the September issue of the magazine will name the Maryland Science Center one of the 10-Best Science Centers for Families. The magazine will be available on newsstands on Tuesday, August 19. The Maryland Science Center's recognition was based on extensive research and surveys conducted by Parents' Magazine of more than 150 science centers nationwide. The evaluation of the museum considered not only exhibits but such factors as science demonstrations, special events, camps, and classes. The magazine considered the stroller-friendliness of the facility; dining options; the quality of the staff; conveniences like family restrooms; and whether the center was a good value based on the admission price in relation to the number of exhibits. "It is an honor to be named one of the top 10 science centers for families," said president and CEO Van Reiner. "This prestigious award attests to the success of our mission to engage families in the fun and education of exploration, and the hard work of our staff and volunteers." An additional consideration that favored the Maryland Science Center in the survey is the special area designed exclusively for young children and their families. The Kid's Room -- an interactive learning center for children up to 8 years of age -- is an example of the kind of special exhibit area catering to young visitors that is now offered by about 50 of the nation's science centers. The Kids' Room is a national model for unique programming for this audience. The Maryland Science Center joins such other prestigious museums on the Parents' Magazine list as Exploratorium in San Francisco, California, The Franklin (formerly The Franklin Institute) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus, Ohio.
