Issuance of the Preliminary License for UTE Porto do Pecem II will allow

              its participation in the next new energy auction



    RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, July 28 /EMWNews/ -- MPX Energia

S.A. (Bovespa: MPXE3) informs that the Ceara State Environmental

Superintendency (Superintendencia Estadual do Meio Ambiente do Estado do

Ceara - SEMACE), has issued the Preliminary License for the second phase of

UTE Porto do Pecem (360 MW).



    The license will allow the participation of the unit in the next new

energy auction, A-5, expected to occur in August 2008. MPX also informs

that Citibank has been hired to act as financial advisor for the UTE Porto

do Pecem II project.
