SpinVox Offers New Guidelines to Help Users Practice ‘Safe Text’

Text-Related Injuries on the Rise
ATLANTA, Aug. 18 /EMWNews/ -- SpinVox, the leader in
voice-to-content messaging, today issued new guidelines to help mobile
users practice 'safe text' in light of a dramatic rise in text-related
accidents.
With more than 363 billion text messages sent last year in the US alone
(CTIA), there is growing concern over individuals who text while conducting
activities that require full attention. A growing number of injuries and
outright tragedies have underscored the dangers associated with texting
while on the go. Driving and cycling pose the greatest danger, but even
such routine tasks as cooking and walking on a sidewalk can lead to serious
injury when mixed with the distraction of text messaging.
"There is an increasing amount of injuries -- some minor, some severe,
some even fatal -- related to text messaging while on the go," said Daniel
Doulton, SpinVox Co-Founder and CSO. "People are not paying enough
attention to their surroundings. You need to quickly read your message,
then use voice to content services to reply back."
According to a recent report published by The American College of
Emergency Physicians, America is facing a significant increase in the
number of serious accidents and injuries that are directly related to
people who become distracted from everyday activities and surroundings by
text messaging. Some of the most common text-related injuries include
bruises and concussions from bumping into lamp posts and household
furniture, twisted ankles from falling off curbs -- which Valerie Jarrett,
aid to Barack Obama, can attest to -- and whiplash from car accidents.
SpinVox issued the following guidelines to help consumers practice safe
text:
1. Before texting, survey your surroundings. If there is a chance of
something striking you, such as a ball near a basketball court, move to a
safer location.
2. Never text while your body's in motion. Texting while driving can be
fatal, but even a sidewalk can present many hidden dangers to the
distracted. You could walk into a telephone pole, trip on a crack in the
concrete, or skate into a dog's leash.
3. Don't just consider your own safety -- consider the safety of others
as well. You may think you're safe from serious injury while texting on the
go, but more serious injuries could result from walking into a small child
or an older person with a cane. Never text when you have younger children
with you -- it is easy to get "lost" in a cell phone screen.
4. Don't text while in the middle of cooking, mowing the lawn or other
dangerous chores.
5. Take advantage of new voice-to-content services such as SpinVox,
which allow users to speak messages that are then converted to text and
delivered simultaneously to as many people as they want.
"Voice-to-content technology is helping mobile users leverage the power
of their voices to communicate electronically," continued Mr. Doulton.
"With SpinVox, mobile users can get the word out faster and easier than
ever while reducing the possibility of hurting themselves or others."
With SpinVox's innovative service, which automatically converts voice
messages into text, mobile users can more easily communicate without taking
their eyes off the road or their surroundings.
