TD Charitable Foundation to Offer $1.5 Million in Donations through its Third Annual ‘Housing for Everyone’ Competition

For the first time, program to support local affordable housing efforts in

both Commerce Bank and TD Banknorth markets

CHERRY HILL, N.J. and PORTLAND, Maine, Aug. 4 /EMWNews/ -- The TD

Charitable Foundation announced that it is now accepting proposals from

housing non-profits from Maine to Florida for funding through its 2008

"Housing for Everyone" competition. The Foundation has increased donations

this year to $1.5 million to support affordable housing initiatives in the

communities where Commerce Bank and TD Banknorth do business.

The TD Charitable Foundation first introduced the "Housing for

Everyone" competition to all TD Banknorth markets in 2006. Each year the

competition focuses on a specific aspect of affordable housing. Now in its

third year, "Housing for Everyone" is open to organizations serving

Commerce Bank's markets as well as TD Banknorth's. The donations will be

available for operational funding for fiscally-responsible organizations

that have made and continue to make a meaningful difference in the

affordable housing landscape of their community.

"This year's competition is focused on capacity-building of our local

affordable housing organizations. We realize that current challenges in the

housing market have increased our communities' need for certain kinds of

support from these organizations," said Elizabeth K. Warn, president of the

TD Charitable Foundation and Executive Vice President of Community

Development for TD Banknorth. "We want to do our part to help affordable

housing organizations continue operations and preserve all the services and

programs that make them such valuable partners for our communities."

Over the past years of the "Housing for Everyone" competition, the

Foundation has invested a total of $3.3 million in donations to help create

or maintain more than 2,300 affordable housing units.

Applicant organizations for the 2008 competition must serve communities

within Commerce Bank or TD Banknorth's current markets. Organizations must

have tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status and must develop or maintain affordable

housing, or provide housing-related programs and services to very-low, low-

and moderate-income individuals or families. They must also demonstrate

fiscal responsibility and the impact they have made on affordable housing

efforts in their communities.

Qualified organizations are encouraged to submit proposals by September

12, 2008. Proposals will only be accepted online, at http://www.tdbanknorth.com or

http://www.commerceonline.com. Notification of awards will be made in November

2008.
