Three Chrysler LLC Plants Award $10,000 in Scholarships to Detroit Students

    DETROIT, July 28 /EMWNews/ -- Jefferson North Assembly Plant

(Detroit) and Mack Avenue Engine Plants I and II (Detroit) have awarded 10

scholarships to graduating students of Southeastern High School of

Technology in Detroit on behalf of The Chrysler Foundation.



    Each winning student participated in the FIRST Robotics program at the

school and received a $1,000 scholarship to continue their post-secondary

education at two- and four-year colleges, universities or

vocational/technical institutions.



    "We are proud to help students realize their full potential and achieve

their educational goals," Brian Glowiak, Vice President -- The Chrysler

Foundation, said. "The academic scholarships awarded by The Chrysler

Foundation today will provide lasting benefits to this community by helping

to develop a talented and skilled future workforce that is prepared to

compete globally."

-- Tessa Foster, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor -- Rafeeq Foster, Wayne State University -- Jamesha Moore, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor -- Denetra Porties, Clark Atlanta University -- Marcel Rich, Michigan State University -- Jerron Robinson, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor -- Elena Scott, Michigan State University -- Kamille Tynes, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor -- Honre Williams, Robert Morris College - Chicago -- Terrell Wilson, Wayne State University "This is another example of The Chrysler Foundation's Good Neighbor, Good Citizen(R) programs that work to make positive investment in local communities, and the employees at Mack Avenue Engine Plants I and II and Jefferson North Assembly Plant are proud to be a part of it," said Robert Hollingsworth, Plant Manager -- Mack Avenue Engine Plants I and II. "Investing in our youth will lead to healthier communities and we are happy to provide financial support to students living in the areas where these plants operate." The presentations were made at a dinner honoring the winners on July 25. Contributions to the community Over the past few years, Chrysler LLC and these three manufacturing facilities have made substantial investments to Detroit's east side: -- In 2007, Mack Avenue Engine Plants I and II, through The Chrysler Foundation, donated $12,500 to Mack Alive. In addition, Mack Avenue Engine Plants and Jefferson North Assembly Plant have supported Mack Alive's Annual Parade for the past four years -- In 2007, these plants sponsored the FIRST Robotic Team for Southeastern High School of Technology -- Each year Chrysler LLC plant employees volunteer to help prepare and serve food at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen located on Connor Avenue. These employees-sponsored meals are made possible by funding from The Chrysler Foundation -- In 2008, the Jefferson North Assembly Plant and Mack Avenue Engine Plants I and II made a $32,500 donation on behalf of The Chrysler Foundation to the Conner Avenue Coalition to Upgrade our Streets (CACTUS), an initiative of the Warren/Conner Development Coalition The Jefferson North Assembly Plant produces the Jeep(R) Commander and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Mack Avenue Engine Complex produces the 3.7-liter and 4.7-liter engines that are offered in the Jeep Commander, Grand Cherokee and Liberty (3.7-liter engine only), as well as the Dodge Dakota, Durango, and Ram pickup trucks. The three plants have more than 3,000 employees and are represented by UAW (United Auto Workers) Locals 7, 51, 412 and 889.
