Young & Rich Clothing Spawned on the Battlefields of Afghanistan
Long Beach, CA (EMWNews) July 16, 2008 — Geer Clothing Corporation announced today that it has launched its new clothing label, Young & Rich Apparel (www.youngnrichapparel.com). Sean Geer and Michael Del Sarto, currently serving in the Army in Afghanistan, launched Young & Rich through shared experiences on the battle lines where they were bonded in a common goal to achieve a better life not only for themselves but also a better life for others to realize their own dreams and aspirations.
On July 27, 2007, Sean and Michael were in one of the worst ambushes in Afghanistan since Operation Enduring Freedom started. They lost their Commander and Staff Sergeant, and 17 more were wounded that day in the battle. Michael was awarded the Bronze Star medal for his actions and bravery. It is on this very day that they created Young & Rich. Over the course of the year, they started to make their idea become a reality.
“Nearly one year ago, we faced a turning point as we realized that there must be a better life than the one we were living on the battlefield where we faced death and casualties in the heat of battle,” said Sean Geer, a Ventura, California resident. “Young & Rich clothing embodies the hope and aspiration that anyone can achieve their dreams and attain a better life for themselves and the people they love.”
” Young & Rich is not a statement; it is a way of life ” |
More than just a clothing line, Sean and Michael wanted to create something that would inspire, motivate and instill in everyone that they too can realize their dreams, goals and aspirations for a better life regardless of the challenges and obstacles that come in their way. Young & Rich reflects the street styles of California, yet speaks directly to youths living in every city and town across the country. The designs reflect today’s young adult: unique, realistic and fashion-conscious.
“Young & Rich is not a statement; it is a way of life,” said Michael Del Sarto, a Southern California native. “It is the reason soldiers fight in the Middle East; it is the reason students attend college on their own after the completion of high school. No matter if a person is on the battlefields of Afghanistan or raised in a South LA, East Harlem or South Chicago, Young & Rich symbolizes that anyone and everyone can strive to be whatever he or she wants.”
About Sean Geer
Born and raised in Ventura, California, Sean Geer has faced numerous obstacles in his life but has always maintained an idealistic and entrepreneurial mindset in everything he has accomplished. At the early age of 10, Sean’s mom passed away. Raised by his father who introduced him to running a small business, Sean learned the value of hard work and reaching for his dreams. While in high school, he started his first clothing company – an early success that has led to a deeper appreciation and drive toward building a clothing company. A high school drop-out, Sean persevered and earned his high school diploma through adult continuation school and later, joined the Army to make a positive impact in the world.
Despite concerns from family and friends, Sean started Geer Clothing Corporation in 2008 while serving as a Specialist in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan. Geer Clothing Corporation is more than a company. To Sean, it is a symbol of the American Dream, where anyone can strive to be whatever they want to be despite the struggles and obstacles that come in the way.
About Michael Del Sarto
Raised in a community where gangs were a way of life, Michael found his greatest inspiration in his mother – a single mom who raised four children while holding a full-time job. His mom wanted a better life for her children, and he learned through his mom the importance of hard work, perseverance, dedication and the dream of a better life.
Despite having a lucrative and successful job in sanitation, Michael yearned to do something better for himself and the people around him. As a result, he joined the Army where he was awarded the Bronze Star medal for his actions on July 27, 2007, which was one of the worst ambushes in Afghanistan since Operation Enduring Freedom.
Michael is passionate about helping the next generation of young Americans seize opportunities to make a difference for themselves and the people around them. He wants the next generation who wear Geer Clothing to really understand the importance of rising above the challenges in life to grab opportunities with confidence. Michael truly believes that anything can be achieved once they set their minds to it.
