U.S. Conference of Mayors President Miami Mayor Manny Diaz to Kick Off Mayor’s ’08 Action Forums in Philadelphia
CRIME AND PUBLIC SAFETY TO BE THE FOCUS
WASHINGTON, Aug. 4 /EMWNews/ -- U.S. Conference of Mayors
President Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, along with Host Philadelphia Mayor
Michael Nutter, Miami Police Chief and Police Executive Research Forum
President John Timoney, and USCM CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran,
will kick off the Mayors '08 Action Forums on crime in Philadelphia on
Wednesday, August 6th. Delaware Senator Joe Biden will join the mayors and
police chiefs for the luncheon portion of the meeting and the press
conference at 12 Noon.
This forum will bring together mayors and police chiefs from around the
country to work on a new agenda to advance community policing, provide
police officers with updated technology, and create a plan that will
involve city residents in reducing neighborhood violence and street crime.
The recommendations that come out of the forum will be presented to the
next President of the United States during the critical first 100 days of
the new administration.
According to a Zogby poll released by the mayors' organization earlier
this year, American people today are more concerned about street crime and
neighborhood criminals than international terrorists. Without a Federal
partnership that provides resources, personnel and technological support,
current crime statistics are unlikely to change.
Mayor Diaz, the newly-elected President of the U.S. Conference of
Mayors, the nation's premiere bipartisan lobbying organization for the
America's cities and metropolitan areas believes, "National problems demand
national investments."
