VIDYA West Zone Celebrates 25 Years of Changing Lives

VIDYA West Zone celebrated a landmark moment on 13th November at Balgandharwa Rangmandir, as it completed 25 years of dedicated service in Mumbai, working across schools, communities, and digital learning spaces to uplift children, youth, and women. The celebration brought together the people who shaped this journey, students who blossomed into confident learners, alumni who returned with pride, teachers and staff who stood by the mission, and donors and partners whose faith kept VIDYA’s work moving forward.

The evening opened with a warm welcome and a reflection on VIDYA’s beginnings in Mumbai, reminding everyone of the organisation’s belief that education must be rooted in dignity, equality, and opportunity.

The event was honoured by the presence of Chief Guest Dr. Katan Hirachand, Chief Executive and Chief Country Officer of Societe Generale India, whose longstanding support for social impact initiatives created a meaningful connection with VIDYA’s work. He spoke about the importance of consistent, grassroots-level intervention and acknowledged the strength of VIDYA’s commitment to community transformation.

The Guest of Honour, Dr. Shirish Kedare, Director at IIT Bombay, shared thoughtful insights on innovation in learning, the need for inclusive education models, and the power of organisations like VIDYA to bridge longstanding gaps. His words added depth to the celebration and highlighted the respect VIDYA has earned within academic and developmental circles.

A key highlight of the evening was the premiere of Reflections of VIDYA, an intimate podcast-style series that brought together the voices of industry leaders, donors, and long-term partners. Through heartfelt conversations, they spoke about what VIDYA stands for, credibility, integrity, empathy, and impact. The series captured the essence of 25 years of trust and collaboration, making it one of the most memorable moments of the event.

The celebration also featured six major felicitation segments, each thoughtfully curated to honour a vital pillar of VIDYA’s growth:

Custodians of Legacy – VIDYA Alumni:
Alumni who started their educational journeys with VIDYA and grew into confident, capable changemakers returned to the stage, symbolising the organisation’s lasting impact.

Each segment spotlighted stories of resilience, mentorship, and collaboration, reminding everyone that VIDYA’s success is woven from countless individual contributions.

The cultural segment of the event brought energy and emotion to the hall, with performances by students and alumni that reflected the spirit of the communities VIDYA serves. These performances stood as proof of how creativity, expression, and confidence flourish when children are given the right platform.

The audience also witnessed the release of two special books, Inked Dreams and The Voyage of Verse. Written by VIDYA beneficiaries and teachers, the books showcased budding writers who found their voice through the organisation’s language and literary initiatives.

A deeply moving moment arrived when Founder and President Mrs. Rashmi Misra addressed the gathering. With unmistakable sincerity, she shared her vision for the future, the establishment of a full-fledged VIDYA School and a Centre of Excellence in Mumbai. Her words reaffirmed VIDYA’s belief that every child deserves a nurturing learning space that builds not just academic skills but dignity, self-belief, and lifelong confidence.

Over the past 25 years, VIDYA West Zone has introduced impactful programmes in education, digital literacy, communicative English, life skills, youth development, and women’s empowerment.
