More than 3,000 Expected to Attend Annual Meeting
WASHINGTON, Aug. 22 // -- The 9th Annual National
Charter Schools Conference will be held in Washington, DC, June 20-23, 2009
with more than 3,000 participants expected to attend, according to the
event's organizer, the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools.
"With a new Congress and a new Administration coming in and getting
down to business in 2009, it's fitting that the national charter school
movement hold its annual conference in Washington," said Alliance President
and CEO Nelson Smith. "The public charter school movement is continuing to
grow in number and in quality, and we're excited to be able to share this
story next year with federal and local policymakers here in the nation's
capital."
Washington is also an appropriate host because the city has the
second-highest number of students in public charter schools in the nation,
behind only Philadelphia. More than 22,000 (30%) of district students are
enrolled in public charter schools.
The national conference will hold two general sessions featuring major
education leaders and provide more than 100 break-out sessions on current
issues for teachers, administrators, authorizers and professionals from
across the public charter school community. Participants will also be able
to tour the expo hall anticipated to feature more than 200
education-related exhibitions.
