My name is Chris Guerra and I was born with a muscle weakening disease called Muscular Dystrophy. The form of Muscular Dystrophy I have is called Becker’s Duchenne, and over the last few years I have been gradually getting weaker physically to the point I am slowly losing my independence and need assistance on even the basic of daily routines.
I will be graduating in December from the University of Central Missouri with a Bachelors of Science with my major being Digital Media Production. I am in a tough position at this time where in order for me to travel anywhere from home I need the aid of a handicap van. The reason behind me needing a handicap van is because I have been permanently in an electric wheelchair and been unable to walk for 10 years.
The only option I have had at this point in transportation is renting a handicap van for $110 a day in which this is something I am unable to afford to do, so I usually have done it on occasion. With me graduating soon from college I will need a van not only to help with my independence, but it will be needed to assist me with going to interviews for a job as well as transporting back from a job once I have been hired. The van will also be needed for all my doctors and medical visits. Ever since I was young my life has consisted of me fighting for everything I have as well as well as my life battling Muscular Dystrophy. I am the type of person who hates to ask for assistance and when I do you know it is something serious.
My family has also always been there for me on anything I have needed, but this is one thing my family has been unable to assist me because it is out of our price range and has been something we can’t afford. It would mean the world to me to have your help on giving me a big chunk of my independence back.
Your help will also change my life and help me pursue my future endeavors and dreams to becoming someone to make a difference in this world just as you have with my life.
