Titanium dioxide, a product having close relationship with a country’s economy, has been developing fast in China with Chinese fast economic growth. Through four decades of development, China has become the second largest titanium dioxide manufacturing country, only next to the US. And it is likely that China will surpass the US to be the champion of titanium dioxide production in the coming 3-5 years.

To be the champion of TiO2 production, who will contribute most? At present, Shandong Dongjia is the top manufacturer. But there are many new projects under construction. Where are the new projects and who intends to expand? With the rapid expansion of China’s TiO2 capacity in recent years, China’s output of TiO2 reached a new high, about 950,000 tonnes. In recent years, as the production of rutile titanium dioxide has attracted increasing attention of domestic manufacturers promoted by the fast growing market demand for it, the product structure of titanium dioxide has changed a lot, with the output share of rutile titanium dioxide expanding quickly, while the share of non-pigment titanium dioxide having almost halved from 2005 to 2007.

In the aspect of technology, at present only one Chinese player adopts chloride process, namely, Pangang Jinzhou. But what about 3 or 5 years later? Can Chinese players make breakthrough in the multinational’s technology monopoly of chloride process?

The import of TiO2 also created a new record in 2007. But, diffrent from the import of TiO2, the export volume decreased 15,500 tonnes over that of 2006. What is the main reason? What fields have the largest consumption volume of TiO2 in China?

Sichuan, an important manufacturing base of TiO2 in China, suffered a serious earthquake in May 2008. What influences has the earthquake brought on China’s TiO2 industry? Competitition from multinational, shortage supply of raw material, China’s TiO2 players have to face a series of problems, what is the development trend of China’s TiO2 industry?

Besides the above content, this report also describes the titanium ore distribution and production situation in China.

Taking into consideration all the above factors and more, CCM reveals the opportunities of China’s TiO2 industry in the coming years.
