Experts at washingtonpost.com and Free Press Share New Media Insights
WASHINGTON, Aug. 20 /EMWNews/ -- Qorvis Communications,
one of the largest and fastest growing independent communications firms in
the United States, hosted an August 19th webinar, "iPhone & New Media
Trends," with Peter Barkely, Director of Mobile Services at
washingtonpost.com, and Tim Karr, Campaign Director at Free Press. Barkely
discussed the development of the washingtonpost.com's new, on-the-go iPhone
application for the newspaper's "City Guide," and Karr explained how New
Media strategies can improve organizations' external communications. An
archived version of the "iPhone & New Media Trends" webinar will be posted
at http://www.qorvis.com by Friday, August 22.
"Qorvis is excited to join washingtonpost.com and Free Press in sharing
our experiences with emerging media and technology," said Qorvis Managing
Director Jason Siegel, who leads Qorvis Interactive Services. "As a
fully-integrated communications firm, Qorvis is proud to have been able to
help develop the washingtonpost.com's iPhone app and to work with Free
Press on various public affairs campaigns."
The "iPhone & New Media" webinar is a part of a series of online and
offline discussions Qorvis has convened to encourage experts to share their
experiences and provide useful recommendations to participants. Qorvis'
last webinar, "Greening the Bottom Line," addressed different ways
organizations can adopt eco-friendly policies without falling prey to
"green washing." Presenters included Erik Joule, senior vice-president of
merchandising and design at Quiksilver; Matthew Perra, manager, commercial
engine communications at Pratt & Whitney; and Rob Wallace, vice president
of communications at Keep America Beautiful, Inc.
"New Media trends are clearly a topic people are interested in and are
willing to take the time to learn about," said Vijay Raghavan, director,
Qorvis Social Media. "Qorvis is privileged to have extensive insight,
experience and partnerships to share in this area, and we look forward to
crafting additional unique, thoughtful and -- most importantly -- useful
online events."
The new washingtonpost.com "City Guide" app allows users to turn their
mobile phones into personal entertainment guides for thousands of DC-area
restaurants, bars and clubs. The app uses a GPS feature to find and map all
nearby locations within blocks of where a user is standing. With an
easy-to-navigate design, the application lets users search by name,
neighborhood, type of cuisine and price range. Users can also quickly look
up addresses, phone numbers, menus, hours, directions and more.
