ANNAPOLIS, MD–( EMWNews – March 31, 2008) – CTIA – Booth # 1341 – TeleCommunication
Systems, Inc. (TCS) (
content, today announced the availability of the Xypoint® Mapping Server
release 5.3 with new features that improve application developers’ ability
location-based services.
The Xypoint Mapping Server has been widely used and enhanced for more than
a decade. Customers use it for sophisticated applications including
roadside service, directory assistance, vehicle tracking, and telematics.
Supporting Web, mobile and connected navigation applications, release 5.3
provides a technology platform for applications to request and receive
location, routing and point-of-interest information, as well as to generate
tiled maps.
Key features of this new release include:
-- Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX) support. This feature enables continuous panning of maps for interactive web applications. Companies can create location-based services for their customers using standards-based maps that are combined with rich content. Rather than viewing a static map, users can continuously scroll to view a desired area on the map. -- Commercial Vehicle and Turn Restrictions. These two features enable companies deploying commercial location-based services to optimize routes or develop alternate driving directions based on commercial vehicle profiles and road restrictions, saving time and decreasing costs through improved routing. -- Traffic-based Routing. Developers can integrate real-time traffic information into their location-based applications to evaluate the effect of traffic conditions on a particular route or to generate unique alternate routes based on real-time traffic conditions. -- Fuzzy Search. This enhanced search capability enables the application of fuzzy logic to provide a rich location-based search capability. This enables applications to search by partial business names or misspelled names, and to provide ranked search results based on proximity or along a route.
“TCS’ Xypoint Mapping Server has a long history of providing mission
critical, location-based solutions to telecommunication companies and their
partners,” stated Timothy Lorello, Senior Vice President and Chief
Marketing Officer. “With this release, we are providing mapping and
navigation support features with powerful user interfaces, and the flexible
content integration features allow developers to customize and enhance the
value of the applications to the end user.”
