The Australian government has added more English test options for people applying for a 482 visa

New Delhi, Delhi Aug 24, 2025 (EMWNews.com) – There have been big changes to the English language requirements for the Temporary Skill Shortage (Subclass 482) visa by the Department of Home Affairs. The changes will take effect on September 13, 2025. They are meant to make things more fair and flexible for skilled foreign workers.

The new rules follow the Vocational English standard and add more English tests that are accepted. People who take tests on or after this date must get at least the following scores:

You need to get at least a 5 in each of the four skills

– IELTS: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

– PTE Academic: 33 for listening, 36 for reading, 29 for writing, and 24 for speaking.

– Listening: 8, Reading: 8, Writing: 9, Speaking: 14

– OET, CELPIP General, LanguageCert Academic, and MET are now also accepted tests, but each has its own score requirements.

But starting on the implementation date, the Cambridge C1 Advanced test will no longer be accepted for this type of visa.

English tests taken before September 13, 2025, will still be good for up to three years, so you can still use them under the current rules.

These changes show that the government is serious about making the skilled migration system fair and open.
