The Journal of a Wannabe Artist

Short Summary

Greetings ladies. Greetings gentlemen. Greetings quadrupeds and cherubs. Welcome to my life.

My name is James Lawson Moore, but you will soon know me as the Wannabe Artist. I am a writer, having just finished my studies in English and literature at my local college. I’ve been writing for most of my life, but now that I’m nearing 30 in a couple of years I figured it was time to take the next step.

Which brings me to what I’ve done here. My first serious attempt at creating a publishable book-length manuscript is practically finished. The Journal of a Wannabe Artist, a collection of poems and prose poems, contains some of my most personal writing, and I think it’s quite good. I have it edited and formatted, and I even have a cover done up. All that remains is to raise some funds so that I can print up copies and begin that next step in writing, from completing a book to publishing it.

What We Need & What You Get

I’m hoping to raise $1000 with this campaign. With the funds, I intend to copyright the book and print copies for sale at book conventions, indie bookshops, libraries, etc. I would also like to have some money left over to go towards a small online promotional campaign for my Facebook writing page as well as for myself as a writer.

The main perk you will be able to get is a copy of the book itself. But that’s not all. I also have copies of previous books I have privately published, books of which there is only a limited supply. Those who choose one of the higher-tier incentives will receive items such as the bound galleys or a copy of the first draft, both of which contain earlier versions of the poems.

The Impact

I am really excited about this book, and I think you will come to love it as much as I have. This book (which is the first in an intended series of books) contains some of what I believe to be the rawest and most real of confessional poetry, along with rather sobering stories in verse form. I believe that this book is a real gem, and I would be estatic to have it out into the world.

Risks & Challenges

There is no real risk those of you who give to the campaign. I am offering incentives such as books and so forth, and I will be sending them your way.

The main challenge is raising the capital to bring this book to press and let it out into the world. With the funds you give I will be able to do that.

Other Ways You Can Help

As a struggling writer and 20-something, I know full well that money can be tight. If you are unable to give (which I fully understand, so no harm or foul), another way you can help is to share this campaign on your Facebook or twitter. Anything to get the word out would be much appreciated.

And that’s all there is to it. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to help me out.
