Join Verdiem in Challenging PC Users to Reduce Carbon Footprint

–(EMWNews)–WHO: Kevin Klustner, CEO of Verdiem; Rob Bernard, Chief

Environmental Strategist, Microsoft; and Lorie Wigle of Intel, President

of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative Board of Directors

WHAT: A virtual press conference and a live Q&A session to launch

a new public awareness campaign around PC energy waste; Verdiem,

Microsoft and Climate Savers Computing Initiative will discuss the issue

and challenge individual PC users globally to reduce their carbon

footprint.

WHEN: August 6, 2008 at 10 a.m. PT

10:30 a.m. PT/1:00 p.m. ET-1:30 p.m. ET

WHERE: URL for the live show: http://ms.istreamplanet.com/environment/

WHY: Many consumers are unaware that the average PC is idly

consuming power to the tune of 1,000 lbs of carbon dioxide emissions

each year. While they are considering everything from eco-friendly

bleach to hybrid cars to reduce their environmental footprints, many are

overlooking the home PC.

Along with other home electronics that sit idle in low-power mode, the

home PC can be responsible for as much as 10 percent of a homes

energy bill. As well as the clear harm to the environment, this

translates to wasted money each month, thanks to the excessive

electricity usage.

By 2010, the Climate Savers Computing Initiative seeks to reduce global

CO2 emissions from the operation of computers by 54 million tons per

year, equivalent to the annual output of 11 million cars or 1020

coal-fired power plants.

In support of this goal, Verdiem, Microsoft and the Climate Savers

Computing Initiative are working to empower individual PC users to

understand and manage the energy and environmental impacts of their PCs.

Join us on Wednesday to learn more about this important issue and what

you can do to help.
