FEMA says that 336 disaster search teams are needed to adequately prepare the country for disasters, currently there are 150 Advanced Certified teams.
Search dogs have successfully located survivors at some of the county’s worst disasters, including the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks and Hurricane Katrina. Donations to this project will help fund the required training for a K-9/Handler team. Each fully trained team reduces the gap indicated by FEMA and will help provide needed search & rescue services to those in need around the U.S.
Virginia Search & Rescue is looking to procure a FEMA certified HRD (Human Remains Detection) K-9 and associated equipment/training to help enhance our capabilities and resources available to the community at need.
