eGuardian and WoogiWorld Bolster School Budgets, Protect Children Online
Leaders in Online Child Safety Offer Free Services for Schools to Convert Into Much-Needed Funding
ONTARIO, CA–(EMWNews – August 18, 2008) – Across the country, school system budgets are
being pinched by the downturn in the economy. eGuardian, the only online protection
to block predators effectively and make search engines and social
networking sites safer for children, has partnered with WoogiWorld, a child-safe and engaging
virtual world, to support schools desperate for an infusion of cash.
“Many schools around the country are seeing their budgets shrink for the
new school year. As a result, educators are having to spend precious time
seeking out and managing sponsors or coordinating fundraisers,” said Ron
Zayas, chief executive officer, eGuardian. “We are pleased to partner with
WoogiWorld to give educators a program that can put teachers back in the
classroom, and provide revenue at the same time.”
The companies announced the launch of a new philanthropic venture offering
eGuardian’s child protection service, and access to WoogiWorld, for schools
to use as a fundraiser. Schools can make the software and membership,
valued at $29, available to parents for a nominal donation (determined by
each school), with 100 percent of the proceeds going directly to the
schools.
eGuardian software is unique from site blocking software that limits where
a child can go online. Instead, the service enables partner sites, such as
WoogiWorld, to provide a safer environment for children.
Using its patent-pending verification process, eGuardian authenticates the
age and identity of every member. Once verified, eGuardian members become
part of a trusted community that ensures each child can only communicate
with other verified children on secure sites. And with eGuardian, a child’s
identity is always kept secure, and will never be shared. Members still can
IM, e-mail and use social networking sites through the protected online
resources, keeping them free from predators.
“WoogiWorld is committed to children’s welfare — whether they are in a
virtual world or the real world,” said WoogiWorld CEO Scott Dow. “By
providing our service to the schools free-of-charge, school districts
around the country can potentially generate millions of dollars to go
directly into its coffers.”
Allied organizations praise eGuardian and WoogiWorld for joining efforts to
combat the rise of online predators.
“Since 2000, Web Wise Kids
has been committed to preventing online child victimization by providing
innovative and effective tools to assist youth to stay safe online,” said
Norman Wolfe, chairman, Web Wise Kids and CEO, Quantum Leaders Inc. “The
ultimate solution is a combination of education, legislation and
technology. We applaud eGuardian and WoogiWorld for trying to give kids a
brighter future by investing in their education and providing them with the
tools to help keep them safe online.”
Schools that register by Sept. 30 are eligible to receive eGuardian free.
