WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., July 29 /EMWNews/ -- Four leaders

from the worlds of medicine, research, consumer publishing and corporate

America have been elected to the national Board of Trustees of the March of

Dimes Foundation, it was announced today.



    March of Dimes trustees, who serve as volunteers, represent the public

in governing the organization and advancing its mission and serve five-year

terms.



    The new trustees are:



    Miriam Arond, Director of the Good Housekeeping Research Institute at

Hearst Magazines, and former Editor in Chief of Child magazine as well as

American Health magazine. Ms. Arond has also worked as an Adjunct Professor

at New York University, Contributing Editor at Bride's magazine, staff

feature writer at the New York Daily News, and on the editorial staff at

Doubleday Books. Ms. Arond and her husband, psychiatrist Samuel L. Pauker,

MD, are co-authors of The First Year of Marriage: What To Expect, What To

Accept, and What You Can Change.



    Harvey J. Cohen, M.D., Ph.D., Professor and Chairman of Pediatrics at

Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Cohen is a long-time volunteer

for the March of Dimes, serving, among other posts, as a member of the

Scientific Advisory Committee and Prematurity Research Initiative

Committee. His research lab focuses on biomarkers of disease in children;

he also studies new and better ways to treat blood disorders and various

cancers, particularly leukemia, in children. Dr. Cohen has held a number of

academic positions at Stanford, as well as at the Lucile Packard Children's

Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif.; Cancer Center University of Rochester and

the University of Rochester School of Medicine, New York; and Harvard

Medical School in Boston. Dr. Cohen lives in Los Altos, Calif., with his

wife, Ilene. They have two sons.



    Donald J. Germano, Senior Vice President/General Manager of Kmart

Stores. Mr. Germano joined Kmart in 2001 and has held several positions

within Sears Holdings and Kmart Supply Chain organizations. He previously

held senior management and logistic positions with Kozmo.com, e-tailer and

delivery company; Nabisco; North American Van Lines; and UPS. Mr. Germano

also served in the U.S. Marine Corps. In his current post, Mr. Germano is

responsible for the financial performance, operations and management, team

development and customer experience of all Kmart's 1,382 stores. Kmart

customers and associates helped raise more than $70 million in the past ten

years for the March of Dimes. Mr. Germano and his wife, Karen, live in

Wilmette, IL with their three children.



    Roger C. Young, M.D., Ph.D., Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at

the University of Vermont School of Medicine. Dr. Young has reviewed

scientific grant applications for the March of Dimes for six years, and has

been a member of the organization's Scientific Advisory Committee since

2006. His academic and research career previously included appointments at

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center; Medical University of South Carolina;

and Duke Medical Center. Dr. Young is a leader in the field of uterine

physiology of pregnancy, and has a long-range goal of decreasing the rising

rate of prematurity in the United States -- also a component of the mission

of the March of Dimes. He has published 41 peer-reviewed articles and

dozens of abstracts, and has co-edited one book.

    Ms. Arond's career has been devoted to family, health and consumer

advocacy issues. As Director of the Good Housekeeping Research Institute, a

state-of-the-art product evaluation laboratory, Ms. Arond oversees a staff

of engineers, chemists, nutritionists and other scientists, with the goal

of educating and informing consumers about products, safety and advocacy

issues. She was Editor-in-Chief of Child magazine from 2000-2007 and,

before that, of American Health magazine. In addition, she has been

Contributing Editor to Bride's magazine, a staff feature writer at the New

York Daily News and has also worked at Doubleday Books. Ms. Arond and her

husband, psychiatrist Samuel L. Pauker, M.D. are co-authors of The First

Year of Marriage: What to Expect, What to Accept, and What You Can Change,

which is based on a nationwide study of newlyweds. Ms. Arond has made

frequent appearances on national television talk shows, including Today,

    Dr. Cohen is a ten-year volunteer for the March of Dimes serving, among

    Mr. Germano joined Kmart in 2001 and has held several positions within

Sears Holdings and Kmart Supply Chain organizations, including Vice

President, Inventory Management & Replenishment for Sears Holdings. He

previously held senior management and logistic positions with Kozmo.com,

e-tailer and delivery company; Nabisco; North American Van Lines; and UPS.

Mr. Germano also served 5 1/2 years as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps.



    In his current post, Mr. Germano is responsible for the financial

Volunteer of the Year" by his local YMCA.



    Mr. Germano is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He and his wife

    Dr. Young has reviewed scientific grant applications for the March of

Dimes for six years, and has been a member of the organization's Scientific

Advisory Committee since 2006. During his career, which also has included

academic appointments at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center; Medical

University of South Carolina; and Duke Medical Center, Dr. Young has

conducted basic and translational research, culminating in a five-year

National Institute of Health-sponsored research project on the physiology

of the uterus. He is a recognized leader in the field of uterine physiology

of pregnancy, and has a long-range goal of decreasing the rising rates of

premature birth in the United States -- also a component of the mission of

the March of Dimes. He has published 41 peer-reviewed articles and dozens

of abstracts, and has presented at numerous national and international

meetings. He has also co-edited one book.



    Dr. Young is a graduate of McDaniel College, Western Maryland College,

and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He and his wife, Dr.

Kathryn Schwarzenberger, have three children and live in South Burlington,
