7 Centre Welcomes Dr. Dan Wayner as Strategic Advisor

Toronto, Ontario Jul 24, 2024 (EMWNews.com) – 7 Centre, a leading Canadian-based startup dedicated to advancing sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting, is thrilled to announce Dr. Dan Wayner as a Strategic Advisor.

“It is a privilege to join 7 Centre as a strategic advisor,” said Dan Wayner. “It is an exciting new venture at the interface of ESG and AI led by a seasoned entrepreneur.  I believe my background and experience can contribute to 7 Centre’s strategic growth in an important emerging market.”

Tanya Seajay, CEO of 7 Centre, said, “We are proud to align with an individual as impressive as Dan. His experience and contributions to science and technology will be invaluable to our mission. Attracting someone of his caliber is a testament to the significance of our efforts and the impact we aspire to achieve.”

Dr. Wayner, a retired scientist and public sector executive, has a distinguished career. He received his BSc in Chemistry from McMaster University in 1980 and a PhD in Chemistry from Dalhousie University in 1984. Following a successful research career at the National Research Council (NRC) from 1984 to 2001, Dr. Wayner transitioned to R&D management. He served as the founding Director General of the National Institute for Nanotechnology in Edmonton from 2001 to 2003 and later as Director General of the NRC Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences from 2003 to 2010.

Dr. Wayner then served as Vice President of Emerging Technologies at the NRC from 2010 to 2016. After a brief retirement, he returned to NRC as Chief Science Officer and Departmental Science Advisor from 2018 to 2022, before retiring in June 2022. His career includes numerous accolades, such as the Rutherford Medal for Chemistry from the Royal Society of Canada in 1999 and election as a Fellow to both the Royal Society of Canada and the Chemical Institute of Canada.

As Vice President of Emerging Technologies, Dr. Wayner oversaw major science facilities, including astronomical observatories and TRIUMF, and managed programs in optical telecom, digital technologies, nanotechnologies, attosecond technologies, metrology, and advanced materials. He established a partnership with Xerox Corporation, leading to NRC’s first presence in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). As Chief Science Officer, he developed a technology horizon scanning capability that continues to support strategic planning.

Dr. Wayner’s deep understanding of R&D, innovation, productivity, and the policy landscape in Canada will support 7 Centre’s efforts to drive forward sustainable practices and innovation.

“We are confident that Dr. Wayner’s expertise will enhance our ability to support businesses in their sustainability journeys,” added Seajay. “His leadership and vision will be pivotal as we continue to develop and expand our Sustainability Ledger and other important initiatives.”
