Academy of Art University Students Win Highest Awards at SIGGRAPH for Fifth Year in a Row

Top Art School Impresses the Computer Graphics World

San Francisco, CA (EMWNews) August 3, 2008 — Academy of Art University students from the digital arts school swept the top three awards at the prestigious Space-Time Student Competition and Exhibition at SIGGRAPH 2008. Julie Huang won 1st place for her project Emo; Kiki Ho won 2nd place for Acajou, World of Secrets; and Joon-Hyuck Lee won 3rd place for Space-Urban Planning for the Next Generation.

This is the fifth year in a row that an Academy of Art University student has taken the first place title at the Space-Time Competition. Last year, Kyle Yugawa won first place for his project Verve.

The Space-Time Competition is an internationally judged competition for students working in computer graphics and digital arts. The exhibition showcases the state of artistic computer-based student work in the categories of print, animation, and interactive works. The student works within the three divisions define the “multidimensionality of time and space.” The diverse breadth of entries represents the top computer art schools in the world.

Five Academy of Art University CANM graduate students were chosen to show at the SIGGRAPH Space Time Gallery. It is an honor, says Livingston, to even have the opportunity to show at the gallery.

The competition is held within SIGGRAPH 2008, the 35th International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, being held August 11-15 at the San Diego Convention Center in Los Angeles, CA. The conference, convened by the ACM SIGGRAPH organization, is attended by tens of thousands of computer professionals.
