Aruba Networks Selected by University of Wyoming for Pervasive Wireless LAN
Low Cost, Ease-of-Use, and Robust Performance Were Key Evaluation Criteria
SUNNYVALE, CA–( EMWNews – April 7, 2008) – Aruba Networks, Inc. (
leader in wireless LANs and secure unified mobility solutions, today
announced that the University of Wyoming has selected Aruba’s adaptive
wireless LAN and AirWave Wireless Management Suite for deployment at its
Laramie campus. Founded in 1887 as a land grant institution, the
university is today home to more than 13,000 students and the sole provider
of baccalaureate and graduate education in the state. The university
sought to replace its legacy wireless network with a more reliable, easier
to manage solution, and selected Aruba based on its low cost, robust
design, and centralized management architecture.
“Our legacy wireless network of Fat APs was fast approaching the end of its
service life, and we wanted to replace all existing APs and expand access
to the entire campus using a more robust, feature-rich network that the IT
staff could centrally monitor and manage,” said Robert Morrison, the
university’s director of telecommunications and systems services. “Our
technical investigation showed that Aruba offered the most cost-effective
solution, integrating a flexible, scalable architecture with the powerful,
easy-to-use AirWave management software. The analytics available from the
AirWave software open a window into the status and operation of the entire
network, backed by a detailed report generator for analyzing trends.”
The robust performance of Aruba’s wireless LANs is achieved through
Adaptive Radio Management (ARM) technology that automatically adjusts the
network to compensate for new clients, sources of interference, and the
type of applications in use. Aruba’s interoperable architecture supports
all standard clients including Centrino, Pentium, and Apple — an essential
feature given the wide range of PCs typically in use on university
campuses.
“Universities rely on their wireless LANs as an essential communications
medium for students, faculty, and staff, and as such they must perform well
in what is a very dynamic and challenging environment,” said Robert
Fenstermacher, Aruba Higher Education Marketing. “Whether enabling
interactive learning in densely populated lecture halls, distributing
streaming video lectures, or providing softphone capabilities on mobile
devices like Apple’s iPhone, our adaptive wireless LANs are up to the
challenge. Used in conjunction with the vendor-neutral AirWave management
platform, the result is a standards-based secure mobility solution with
industry-leading throughput and low installation and operating costs.”
