British Columbia Lottery Corporation: On a “Mission” to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(EMWNews – Aug. 1, 2008) – BCLC is pleased to announce a winner of Vancouver 2010 Gold Medal Hockey tickets from SportsFunder lottery games. Tim King of Mission, B.C. is one of the first people in the world to secure tickets to the men’s gold medal hockey game at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

“It feels great, it’s indescribable,” said the 48-year-old, who hasn’t yet figured out who he’s taking to the game.

Tim received the pair of tickets as a winner of the Gold Medal Hockey Game lottery game. Lorraine Fawcett, also of Mission, had previously won $75,000 playing SportsFunder’s First Ticket to 2010 lottery game.

“That’s two winners from Mission that have won top prizes,” said Jim Lightbody, VP, Lottery Gaming. “I love giving away such a great prize as experiencing the Olympic Games live, these memories will last a lifetime.”

Currently, the only way to get Olympic tickets is to win through playing SportsFunder lottery games. There are currently two SportsFunder games with opportunities to win tickets to the Olympic Games, the Gold Medal Hockey and Gold Medal Figure Skating.

Proceeds from the sale of SportsFunder lottery games support amateur sports in B.C. through KidSportTM, Team BC, Youth Sport Travel Assistance, and Coach and Leadership Development. KidSportTM provides financial assistance to children who wish to play sports but cannot afford the registration fees. Team BC gives athletic development support to provincial teams representing B.C. at Canada’s premier multi-sport events.

BCLC is a provincial Crown Corporation reporting to the Minister of Housing and Social Development through a Board of Directors. Its mission is to offer socially responsible gaming entertainment, generating income for government programs, including health care, education, amateur sports and community and charitable programs, throughout British Columbia.

In fiscal 2007/08 more than 6,850 community and charitable organizations received community gaming grants as a result of BCLC net income.

BCLC is an Official Supporter of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
